DYLAN
I love Norwood because it has allowed me to be myself, learn, and grow. When Norwood tells a family that their child will “be known,” they mean it.
VIOLET
Because of Norwood, I learned to be more comfortable in taking a leadership role and to be more comfortable with advocating for myself when I need to.
UYGAR
Norwood doesn’t just teach surface level information. It dives into the intricacies of history, the minutiae in math, and the deep ideas in English.
CAITLIN
How you lead your life matters. These are the first few words I saw when I came to Norwood. At first, I thought “oh it’s just some silly school thing,” but in reality, it’s much more. I have learned that how I lead my life really does matter, it affects my future, my friendships, and the opportunities I may receive.
ZACH
When I walked through these doors five years ago, I was not known. I was a new student after all. But I realize now that I also didn’t know myself. Today, I feel truly known within these walls, as a student and a person. More importantly, I also know who I am. I have found my voice, I’ve embraced my individuality, and I am confident being myself.
SOPHIE A.
Be known. That’s one of the mottos of our school, and for me, Norwood lives up to this every day. It is a value that when we are younger, we might almost take for granted, but as we get older, it’s actually now our responsibility to make sure that others, especially younger students, feel known by us.
BEN
Norwood has made me the person I am today and has helped me develop tons of crucial skills to becoming a better student and a better person. Norwood has a great balance between letting students have fun with friends and also learn.
CLAUDIA
Norwood has really helped me grow and made me who I am today. I felt heard as well as seen at this school, and throughout my years here, I have had lots of fun.
MATTHEW
I love Norwood because of all the amazing people in the community, the skills I have learned (working hard, staying disciplined and focused, having fun, compassion, and empathy), and how it has set me up for the future.
NYAH
At Norwood, everyone is naturally friends with everyone. I was there for nine years and witnessed new kids coming into the School and becoming best friends with everyone quickly.
AKASH
I love Norwood not only because of the fun and interesting academics, sports, and extracurriculars, but also because of the welcoming community that allowed me to explore areas and achieve feats I never thought were possible at my age.
SOPHIE D.
I love Norwood because it is a hands-on school, which is good for visual learners like me. When in class, teachers will do whatever they can to help you succeed.
The ringing of the Norwood Bell is a common sound during the school day. It signifies the end of recess and time to return to class. Lower schoolers (and we suspect some middle schoolers) enjoy the opportunity to ring the bell with permission from their teacher. On graduation day, it is a tradition that each eighth grader ring the bell one last time (pictured in the photos above) before the ceremony begins.
Located in Bethesda, MD, Norwood School develops students in grades PK-8 into confident lifelong learners who have the academic, character, and leadership skills to succeed in high school and beyond.
