Digging Up Ancient History in Fourth Grade

Fourth graders capped off their learning about Early Man with the much-anticipated Big Dig event on Norwood's own archaeological dig site.
On a beautiful fall morning, our fourth grade archaeologists headed outside to Norwood's own excavation site, located down the hill from the back of the Marsh Gym, to experience in an authentic way how prehistoric information is discovered. During what is known as "The Big Dig" at Norwood, teams of archaeologists excavated, cleaned, and made notes on the many fossils and artifacts they unearthed. Once back in the classroom lab, they organized, classified, and cataloged their findings.
